your statement of the 15th of may after another right wing mass racist shooting...
please do not ever phase it that way again..

all guns should be kept in an armory for the militia. as the constitution says armed militia. Armories IMHO are or can be gun stores. the purpose was not to overthrow our government but to stop invaders or benedict Arnolds-terrorists within.

here are some early issues with militias that did not have enough arms or training.

Sorry, the point is all we do is talk and do NOTHING about the problem.
Republicans are especially silent on potential solutions to ongoing gun problems in our country, rather they promote easier access to guns.

Troubled minds with easy access to guns is a keg of gunpowder waiting to explode.

There is no viable solution. It's possible to have more/better control over who is allowed to buy a gun. Plus, we could do a better job of monitoring those that have legal guns, but shouldn't because of mental issues, but this is a touchy issue because of the subjective and political elements involved.

I don't have an issue with not allowing "military style" weapons to be purchased, but there are lots and lots of other "nonmilitary style" weapons out there that are just as dangerous, the issue is magazine capacity, which has been addressed by some states. What you hear on the news over and over is mostly BS.

Removing guns from the population is not feasible. I would speculate that the government, Fed and or Local don't know who has or where half of the guns are located. Buybacks or voluntary turn ins would allow the responsible gun owners to be without weapons while the "bad guys" keep there's. More than likely, those that have owned guns for a long period of time would not voluntarily turn them in unless the Government came for them.

As in the past, any talk of additional gun legislation guarantees in big increase of gun sales, legal or otherwise.

It is what it is, and little will change.

Sorry, it is not just what it is. It is a product of gun manufacturers taking over the GOP, escaping liability for selling dangerous products due to the GOP, and packing the court with political operatives that have turned the clear meaning of the Second Amendment on its head. It is Orwellian.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Thank you for the honest answer, Techno. I would hazard to guess that most conservatives are like you; they see the need for some type of gun/ammo control, but simply lack the will. At this point I really don’t think there is any number; any age limit young or old, any number of victims or any number of mass shootings that will give Republicans the will to make a change.

Techno

There is no viable solution to prevent ALL deaths by firearms. But, consider this statistic. The states that do have background checks, waiting periods and limitation of guns sold to those with a history of violence have much lower rates of gun homicide.

https://www.bu.edu/articles/2019/state-gun-laws-that-reduce-gun-deaths/

So, the reduction of overall rates of gun deaths IS directly related to pretty simple gun laws such as those that have been passed in "purple" Colorado. So, to say there is no solution is a cop out. We're not trying.

Now, the other issue is school mass shootings. The ones where a young male kills his classmates or children. The horrific happenings in Texas. We shouldn't sell guns to 18 year olds. You cannot buy weed or booze in CO till you are 21. Why can you purchase a gun? Young male's brains have not developed to the point that, as an age group, they should be trusted to behave responsibly with a firearm.

Homicide rates by firearms include:
Spousal killings
Gang warfare
Drug warfare
Mass shootings
School massacres
Robbery and theft

The solution to the damage wrought by guns to each of these problems is different. One size does not fit all.

Until we accept that SOME gun control is not a constitutional issue, we cannot move forward on solutions to each of these problems in the most productive way. It is quite obvious that the blanket approach taken by the GOP on the protection of "gun rights" is responsible for no movement on these problems. It's time for the GOP to just admit it.

In a country where we invent incredible things everyday, where we have military capabilities to take out terrorists from 7000 miles away operating drones, and send celebrities into space....are you saying we can't craft a system with reasonable background checks and hurdles before a responsible citizen purchases a firearm? Bullshit. Obviously, it is perverse that we feel the need to own weapons of war, for hobby.. Pure insanity in a country that looks more like a failed state everyday, if we cannot protect our children at school.

Nice attitude, it is what is is.
It's really more, not only are Republicans turning a blind eye, they are advocating for easier access to guns.

All the while attacking abortion rights.

Protect the fetus and let them fend for themselves when they are in the school classroom!

NRA has Republicans in their back pocket!

The National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America are the leading contributors of lobbying and campaign contribution spending for gun rights groups.

Spending on House and Senate races generally pales in comparison to the amount these groups spend on presidential and gubernatorial elections. For instance, in 2020, the NRA alone spent over $12 million campaigning against Biden and another $4.5 million in favor of Donald Trump. (Some high-profile Senate races, like Jon Ossoff vs David Purdue in Georgia in 2020, capture millions in spending, but the NRA’s candidates lost those races.)

That said, Texas Senator Ted Cruz has been the biggest beneficiary of those groups when it comes to campaign spending. A separate study by OpenSecrets looking at funds received by gun rights groups from 1989-2020 shows he has received a disproportionately larger amount of funds from those groups, compared to other lawmakers.

Cruz received $442,333 in that time period, compared to $248,058 to Steve Scalise, the second-largest recipient of funds from gun rights groups.

I guess that it's a bit ironic that Rep. Steve Scalise was a victim of gun violence.
