He lied because they were getting direct assistance from rusiia.

we need a constitutional amendment that a president even if he resigns president ,VP and so on in line can not pardon or commute the sentences of anyone they are related too, or ever worked for them, including in campaign, donated to them, had dinner with them.
President Trump commuted the sentence of his longtime friend Roger Stone on seven felony crimes just before he was to report to prison.
