It's not you - the Crissy webcam has been down for quite a while

You might find the Fog Today website which uses data from NOAA's high resolution GOES-16 satellite imagery helpful https://www.fog.today/

Click the 2 hour loop to estimate the fog trend

Thanks fdryan and Riptide!

I just found this other one, if you don't know it: https://g1.ipcamlive.com/player/player.php?alias=5e863c6e0e66d

But I guess the low/def East Beach cam is still a better reference.

...and now, without further ado, THE (GOOD) CRISSY CAM IS UP!!!
https://parksconservancy.siteproxy.net/Crissy%20Beach/ctl.html

And it look like some good soul (a.k.a. volunteer) cleaned out the (less good) East Beach cam: https://parksconservancy.siteproxy.net/East%20Beach%20Webcam/ctl.html

So there: thank you and go wild! Very Happy

SERIOUSLY... does anyone give a crap?!?

Crissy Field, a "world class sailing site with unsurpassed urban beauty", has the WORST spot cam in the world (<- not an actual researched fact, more like an hyperbole to attract peeps attention...)

But check it out yourself:
http://www.rntl.net/san-francisco-windsurfing-cams/

The only two cams we care for are ALWAYS down or blurry or fixed or impossible to control.

One issue is that these are PTZ (Pan,Tilt, Zoom) cams. That means 3 separate motors and many moving parts in a marine environment. It also means that hundreds of people who love S.F. Bay use those moving parts daily. So, things break faster than fixed-focus cameras.

For most of the customers of this site a fixed focus cam covering the beach to Anita Rock to mid Golden Gate area would be better than a PTZ cam that is often broken. Just give us a view like the image below.

A secondary advantage is that the cam would be far less used by casual users since the people/scenery-watching factor would be diminished. So you could access the cam with less waiting

Yea, of course, I love being able to check out the white caps near Anita Rock but having a cam that was operational is more important.

The web cams are weather proofed. The park service blames Comcast. Sometimes we need to get the park service to push a reset button on their router. The park service restricted the Zoom because of perverts and a pair of crooks using the Cam to see when people walk away from their car. The better Cam on the bathroom is linked to the first Cam via wireless to the Crissy field center frog hut. Then hard wire comcast.

We want to upgrade the software package and reliability of the internet/router issues so the Coast Guard can take over the Cams and have full zoom for search and rescue in an emergency. Working with the National Park Service is difficult. They have experienced a exodus of employees from retirement and budget issues.

This is all very political and best left to SFBA. Several years ago the Coast Guard wrote a letter supporting the SFBA efforts for the 2nd camera and the Coast Guard's concerns. The National Park Service ignored the Coast Guard's letter. They never replied. The park service is paralized by political indecision.
