San Luis thread starting 2/22/2020

Arrived at 12:15 Rigged a 4.7 which was about right on average
all day. Sometimes gusty and a little zony more even toward the end
of the day.
Water level good at 222
Weather went from low cloud layer to sunny.
Was hoping for a mellow start to the season had to settle
for raging. 4/3 wetsuit was warm enough for a couple of hours.
Me and Larry on the North Side one sailing from the South side.

This is the earliest in the season I can remember sailing San Luis ever.

Is San Luis open during sip? Where best to park? Haven't sailed there in years. Thanks!

I have been checking this a lot.
So you would have to live in Merced County and Hike in.
Just google the website.

Also have you been there since they started checking for mussels.
They want your boards and sails dry now.
They will check them.

Parking is kind of a mute point now .
Coming the North or South Gate determines where your going to park,or which launch you end up at.
There usually is a very low number of people there on either side
except on major holidays . A dozen windsurfers on Oniel forebay is
crowd the last few seasons. And by now the weeds will be starting
to grow so bring a weed fin if they ever open.

Called them and they verified this.
Guy at the gate also said they weren't checking for in County.
but I don't know.
Main office says no out of county.
or that is at least how I interpreted it.
As usual confused messaging.
People at the gate have a different idea of what is going on.
Called gate again and they said they didn't know it
was a different person who also aske a ranger that said they
didn't know

1-209-826-4714
North Gate.
1-209-826-1197
main office

Went yesterday 5/22/2020 windy in the morning but died in the afternoon. Beautiful day no problem with the ranger they were courteous and they knew we were out of county as we had to do the mussel inspection since they take down your zip code. Nobody there so it was easy to social distance.
Camping and the boat launch are closed probably to discourage social gathering. Now we just need some wind.

Thanks for running the experiment.
And thanks for the reply.
How where the weeds?
Says the boat launch is open but I don't
think we care about that.

Weeds are not a problem at all but the Forebay level was 220ft nice and high. Always a good idea to check before you go. Here is the link.
