That depends heavily on what you consider a wave board and who shaped it.
I have a board which is absolutely shaped to work well in small onshore waves and also powerful side-off conditions, I even use it for powered up blasting. It does that through extensive fin tuning capabilities.

It seems a lot of people are stuck in the mindset that wave board=heavy rocker Maui design.

The Goya Quads despite being a Maui design also don't fit into the high rocker category. They are extremely popular in my local area and truck upwind just fine, but it does require a different technique to a single fin.

where do you perceive me stroking my ego? just stating the obvious, those that use wave boards in less than optimal spots get mediocre results, no matter what their skill set.

I still get upwind easily.

My take is puffed shirt, I excel and the rest of the world doesn’t.
AND the Same take on multi fins for what 13 years, on
And you don’t address the op question at all, except to,point out he’s wrong to have a quad.

I have no desire to look at your FB page. I would Rather chew on broken glass.
I
Because you shout loudest means your right, right.
Do you want to really measure dicks ? No iam not a magazine tester extreme, no iam not a world class sailor, iam a pretty damn good tester and board producer, I know what I like and I liked doing it.
You have a one track vocabulary, Exocet, single fins, Aerotech , Maui Wave means it sucks.
Start your own fucking single fin thread.

John, doesn’t care to,share with the forum , instead he has private message me . HIs entertainment should be shared, but it’s pathetic.
Last surf session was my last trip to OBX, April 2018 ramp 43, Sea Lion, previous to that was Oct 7, 2017, North Sea , Hunstanton, England .
I usually get 1 trip a year to a ocean. Sometimes other things get in the way.
Because I don’t drive for Ferrari,it doesn’t mean I can’t drive fast.

this thread is another big dose or reality.

in florida i can count the number of days on less than 2 hands when a full blown wave board is the right choice. and, for all the same reasons initially discussed.

to go with an oversized set of fins, or use a cross venue free ride board (aka a FSW)?????

last few wave sessions i have had a blast with the new exocet crosses and older ones prior to that. what do i get with my cross boards? upwind, early planing, great turning. what do i give up? about 5% of my abilities to round out my top turns on waves.

wake up and smell the delusions of having wave boards anywhere else other than ideal places.

theq sails a cross off wave riding heaven spot. FSW is a waste there.

Lots of competition for waves there, so upwind ability is important to snag waves.

If rocks are a concern I'll take a K4 over G10 any day.

Is this due to the G10 (laid up) being harder to repair, i.e. file out, than the K4 plastics? it just seems like the softer material would ding easier. I could be wrong. Thanks.

Yes, whatever it takes to cover more productive/valuable ground is beneficial. And since I can't tack, and I'm riding a wave board, I need to point to start off as deeply as possible into a forming wave.
