Hi there,
Other than the stick, what other spots of speed windsurfing do we have around here?
Thanks |

Half Moon bay by northwest, sail just south from the jetty? Where do you launch?
Doran: I suppose northwest and ride south of the peninsulea where do you launch? |

Along North side of Brooks Island jetty, but wind direction can be tricky for access.
Launch at Pt. Isabel, Shimada, or Vincent parks. |

Regarding Bodega Bay and Doran State Park, I've launched from the park in the past, but I've also parked on the side of the road along the peninsula. I will say though, that was many years ago.
At low tide in the inlet channel you can ride right up next to the mudbank in super flat conditions and really let it rip. |

If it wasn't the constant prescence of eel grass and other green growth.....requiring long draggy weed fins.....the harbor is great for high wind flat water runs.
Unfortunately, weed fins do create a lot of drag and little lift. |

Stick is only good in the those good days when the wind comes up strong and sudden. Then you have half hour without chop. After that the chop is plenty enough to slow you down. If you go close to the freeway on the north side it is better. I never done more than a couple of occasional 36 knots (2") there, with more typical max speed 32-33 knots.
Haskins ("Flying Tigers") can be very good, it stays flat. But access is not that great. |

The trouble with going fast is that you are a loner...sailing by a bunch of people who hardly give you a glance.
Nobody cares about speed, except a handful of old farts who can barely jibe.
The new gen is all about freestyle, or some form of foiling...going slow. |

Miki Dora, the old fart master of longboard trim/section surfing, once called the emerging fad of short board “freestyle” slashing “nervous surfing”. A parallel perhaps? _________________ /w\ |
