Used is great if you can find it. Shipping though typically sours the deal.
A lot of beginners just want to order something and get going.
I think the windsurf industry needs a big board that is plain and cheap. 1 color, no graphics and no foam top that proves to be delicate and I'm sure adds to the cost immensely.
So far $950 is the point of entry for a Bic Beach:

Has anyone seen or found a big beginner type board at a better price anywhere? |

just as fins have many factors, so does a first time board
location, location, location
weight, skills, balance, etc
i once sold an F2 Comet with a 6-oh sail with one lesson for $250
the kid was so enthusiastic I could not help myself
he was whooping it up on the first outing ...
BIC makes the cheapest new boards
how long you want to keep the board ?
now they have Wind-SUPs too
BIC Technos are nice and just a little more money
with or without the D(agger) |

Beginner boards are only needed for the first 5-10 hours, so either borrow one or (even better) take a vacation with lessons.
Honestly though I'm directing people with no wind sport experience to just go winging. All the advantages of kiting and windsurfing combined it seems. |
