Hi Gang,

We are resuming our Southern California forecasts early on a once-per-day basis. This is because it has been a weird winter with the North Pacific High often in a spring-type location. This has sometimes been bringing wind to the Pacific side of Baja and often helping the La Ventana winds and sometimes bringing wind to Southern California and even Northern California waters.

Expect some greater than normal inaccuracies this week as we begin to pick up the pattern this early in the year.

Southern California: Today epitomizes that pattern with a 3300 mile wide North Pacific High stretching from California to way past Hawaii and to near the tip of Baja. This is creating NW winds at the ocean buoys in the northern Southern California Bight this morning. Unfortunately, the pressure gradient to the inland valleys, Southern California Deserts and the Great Basin is weak so only mid to maybe weak upper-teens winds will reach the Leo to Long Beach area. Strong westerly winds will try to reach the Santa Barbara area but it does not look like those winds reach the beaches today. Still, it is worth watching the Isla Vista to Leadbetter to Ventura zone

Central Coast: The North Pacific High is sending upper-teens wind to the nearby ocean buoys and with a decent pressure gradient from the ocean buoys to Santa Maria to Cachuma Lake we should see upper-teens winds for Pismo and Arroyo. Mid to upper-teens WSW for Lopez, Jalama upper-teens to 20 and a chance of brief upper-teens for Isabella.

Santa Barbara to Ventura: Isla Vista, Ledbetter & Ventura have strong westerly winds nearby but at this time it does not look like those winds reach the beaches.

Leo and Long Beach area: Leo mid to weak upper-teens. Cabrillo mid to upper-teens-teens. Belmont mid-teens. Seal low-teens. Huntington low-teens.

San Diego: Low to weak mid-teens.

Hey Mike

The county added a new wind sensor at the coyote point harbour.

Is that something you can add to the iwindsurf map?

Hi LUCARO,

Ok I sent in the request. When/if it appears it will only be on the new IW.
