A renaissance day at Pleasant Bay

Multiple kites and foil boards

A couple of wings

A couple of young guys with a lot of enthusiasm

And me on a relic. I Fooled around with a 5.0 and then lit it up with a 6.0

A great day!

It’s all about the glide.
I have always asked why we love riding the face of a glassy wave. Be it on a surfboard, windsurfer, kiteboard, standup.
We are always looking for that smooth clean glide.
Enter WingsurfIng.
Endless smooth clean glide even on flat water. No rigging, no lines to run, no harness, no sound of board slapping on the water, No waiting for wind and surf to line up for the perfect side-off.

Oh and a new challenge to learn which has always been the funnest part of all water sports.
But I don’t recommend you try it.

The first time I got on a windsurfer was on a cloudy day at Pleasant Bay in ’84. I was cheered on when I went 50’.

I bet the Kook and OC remember those days were everyone who had a windsurfer was cool.

Yesterday’s vibe was very much like it was back in the day!

PS – it was neat to see young teenager’s really excited to ask Jerry questions about his wing. In spite of the internet, hanging around outside is not dead yet!

Felt the same way on Saturday in Delaware!

My daughter finally wanted to learn this windsurfing thing. Had her up and sailing, beachstarts, and even a taste of the harness after two days. A little of my own coaching, but encouragement and tips from other random windsurfers out the same day. Let her use my boards, so I sailed my Berky which had been sitting idle for years. A family on the beach grilling even kindly offered us some of their food.

Let’s all come together again. So much better way to live.

Shut out at Ninigret. Full parking lot at 9am. After 3 hr. drive from NH. Ate early lunch at watch hill harbor. Meter looked stupid gusty(9-29). Don’t think I missed much.

Windsurfing was something I tried for the first time in 1984 on an overcast day in Pleasant Bay. When I turned 50, I was met with applause.
