I caught an interesting perspective with a new mast-mount I've started playing with. Figured I'd share a pretty unique view of perhaps our most collectively obsessed upon move here — or is it just me?
foiling jibes — bird's eye view
And just to preempt some inevitable comments, I'm sailing deep downwind angles here (part of a big downwinder I sailed this past Sunday), and in this sequence am generally just finishing one jibe and setting up immediately for the next, which is why my back foot is staying on or over the centerline. Sailing upwind, of course that back foot comes right out near the windward rail.
Anyway, I'm finally able to foil through jibes pretty reliably, so just figured I'd share this rather different perspective on it. |

It's a bit odd seeing no horizon line.
That aside, I'm curious about your Mike's Lab board. Maybe you can share more about it. |

very cool view.
Must be a 360 camera on a stick forward of the mast? |

Yup. GoProMAX on an F-hot Mast Mount. Not much of a "stick"; just a 3" GoPro mount extension. Realized I should tweak the angle of the "stick" to keep the mount out of the frame — easy enough. I really like the effect of the re-framed 360 footage with GoPro's "world lock" turned on. |

Very cool. Do you have it right at the top of the mast? |

Great video, thanks for sharing. It's a great perspective for seeing the foot work and the timing.
Also good to hear that it took you quite a while to foil through jibes reliably. Last time we saw you at Kalmus 2 or 3 years ago, you were foiling quite well already. There are days where foil jibes can be a bit frustrating, so it's good to be reminded there's light at the end of the tunnel. |

Foiling jibes? I thought you were showing how well-coordinated your whole outfit and rig are!
Seriously, the jibes looked effortless.
Also, I noticed that you do not use back straps. Is anyone using them? _________________ Brian S

I'm afraid that it's going to be a really long tunnel for me. _________________ Brian S
