|
|
I just got into wind foiling recently and riding a Naish Hover 142 with the Jet 1150 foil. The mounting plate has extra holes at each end with cutouts to slide the screw and attached T-nut into easily (Way faster than dropping the T nuts into the track and trying to line them all up). It makes me a little nervous attaching the foil with the cutouts like that.. But that is what they are for right? Can I mount the foil in the holes with the cutouts and not worry about ripping the screwheads off?

Cutout slots for wide footprint, stable.
Holes for tuning at the edges of the board's track, for further adjustability.
Use what allows you to sleep at night.

The cutouts at the end of the mast plate are for easy attachment. Myself and most others have been using them all season. If you have a reasonably tight connection, that screw head is not coming close to slipping out. Just my 2 cents.

I am on GoFoil's so maybe my input is not relevant. I have noticed many times that my mounting screws are much less tight when I remove them than when I rig the foil. I say "less tight" rather than looser as they aren't really loose. I suspect this is due to settling, once the foil is engaged, it may vibrate or pressure may cause it to adjust itself. I don't know if that applies to your situation, but I am of the opinion that I sacrificing a small amount of time is worth it if it provides an extra level of safety, or at the very least, peace of mind.

I think all the Fanatic masts, at least the new ones come with the cut out slots only. Must work ok for them!

Maybe I'll split the difference. 2 in the fwd holes, 2 in the aft slots. I lost a nice fin once and it was heartbreaking. Can't imagine losing an entire foil! Thanks!

I am not a foil guy, but... it seems to me you are not using the mast for
anything hydrodynamic (once you are foiled up), so, maybe they should
come with an installed leash (a thin coated steel cable comes to mind) that
you could attach somewhere topside (like to an unused screw hole) that isn't
a tripping hazard.
Just a thought.

Windance board shop has a foil leash that sticks to the side of the mast. Also uses kite line to tie to the board, foot straps or or inserts... I use it just in case...
