Yes, it is subjective. But if it is subjected by a lot of people, then it's definitely a trend. Smile

Even dark patches can heat enough to get too hot to touch, and that can't help skin-to-core bonding at that spot.

This is why I'm so puzzled why in the hell manufacturers paint the bottoms of some boards and even in totally dark colors.
In spring I'm often in the situation when sailing 3 days after the ice is gone on the local lake, so the water is ice cold, but the air warms up to 70-80F. Under the direct sunlight those boards would get even hotter. Then dipped into very cold water. No good!

I like having some underneath on the hull.

Big fan of:
- Sea/Ocean theme (shark, beach, sunset, waves, etc)
- Blue, white, and red (wait that's the French flag, haha)
- wood
- contrast bold
- full white rails, nose and tail
- like black straps bit with white dominant top cover

Actually what would you like to see on a board?

Maybe brands should offer a choice between a basic white board with no graphics and a board complete with their latest graphics. For the former, a lower price could be offered. For the artistic minded buyer, the basic white board could be their own canvas.

Back in the late 80s and early 90s, I had a number of custom boards made that incorporated more unique graphics that I designed. I still have one of them, an Open Ocean single fin that I bought in 1992 that has my graphic design and colors on the deck. Brian Hinde incorporated a variation of my design theme on the bottom within a facet feature that he shaped into the forward part his boards at that time. That board is included with the following photo matched with an OO Tri-fin that I bought in 1996. The contrast between the two shows how board design changed in the "no nose" revolution that was industry-wide.

Well, since Steve opened the door, I am a fan of creating your own custom
graphics and white is boring. I don't have a static picture of the thing,
but.........here is a top and bottom picture of a board I created the
graphics for (and the planform as well). It (and all it's psychedelic
profundity) is living in a backyard board museum at one of my friends
houses now. I rode that baby for about 8 years, before it went soft
under the foot straps. Really loved that board.
