Any feedback on using an impact vest for extra flotation on big days in the surf? I'm not as fit and young as I used to be so I'm looking for an extra bit of peace of mind.

Specifically looking at this:

Works well, especially if you're willing to get to shore ASAP.
Ducking under is problematic, of course.
Most big wave windsurfers wear it.
Ist time at Phantoms, talk was about that on the shore..1986.
Jason Polakow wears one.

I have this exact same vest and love it. Many pockets for knife, whistle, extra line, etc.

Lots of cold water sailors wear round toe booties..easy in and out, warm...but provide little swimming power, so float vests allow you to tumble towards shore.
Lay flat in shallow sharp reefs, ball up a bit in deep water or sand bottoms to get pushed in farther.
That float vest allows you to double your ride time on each row of whitewater.
Round toes to allow narrower strap screw placement for firmer control.
Small feet riders can wear split toes, but I'm size 11.

Yes, they're great, not restrictive and keep you warm in the winter months. Definitely a good addition, just get a big size as they fit tight!!!
