This is what happens to Parks in San Francisco when the Park happens to be in majority Black neighborhood. First, after 18 months of complete neglect of the problem associated with a homeless RV community, they close the west access road (something that is probably illegal, this is a public road). Then they let the easter access flood completely. And of course for years the Park, and the whole area, has been in an appalling state of disrepair.

Result? A whole community, the whole city actually, cut off from access to the Park, and a overall appearance that looks more like a run down fourth world site rather than the proud "liberal" home of facebook-google-twitter.

And of course the much smaller windsurfing community has lost a prime winter location. We'll see what happen next, but if you are in the city contact your supervisor, the press, post on social media ... do something!

Who is a regular? Who is the governing authority and contact information? Why is it closed really, high tide flooding? Who is volunteering to be a SFBA site steward for this sailing site? Who knows the history? Stop complaining and take action.

First step in taking action is to let people know of what is going on, and this is what I am doing, although I doubt anything can be done. The city is at the service of big money, a republican administration with a veneer of liberal varnish when it comes to cultural issues. Candlestick will go down the drain of big money development, like Treasure Island is.

On the West side is unclear why the access is closed. On the West side of Hunters Point Highway they had to clean out the area and i suspect they put cement barriers just to avoid RVs re-entering the area. On the eastern side the water you see has nothing to do with the tide. Is permanent flooding probably caused by a lack of drainage on the old Candlestick Site and the cement barriers that they put up. This is what to be the access to Candelstick Stadium, it never had a flood problem!

Happy new Year to everybody otherwise. Coyote was sort of working today.

Is this called Flying Tigers? What is the official name of the park. Candlestick?

Is anybody going to volunteer and take ownership of this problem?

Where have you been Riptide? This is Candlestick Park. If you do not know use Google Maps. I am contacting the Superviser for district 10, Shamann Walton, about this. It is a shame and much bigger than windsurfing ...

Officially called: Candlestick Point - Windsurfer Circle, CA?

https://www.theweathernetwork.com/us/forecasts/beaches/california/candlestick-point-windsurfer-circle

The problem started after the October atm river rainstorm dumping 6+ inches of rain in San Francisco. Being in a poor neighborhood, the powers that be let the dirty water sit there for days. Finally some local homeless campers came down with waterborne diseases and ended up in the emergency room. Finally they started pumping the toxic soup into the bay. Local campers told me that the nearshore seawater was tested and found to have very high bacteria counts and full of toxins; the city moved everyone out by November 2. We continued to sail there till maybe mid November until the road was blocked off.

Access to the Candlestick Point Statepark was still possible by looping around the old ballpark. But the December storms completely flood the streets around the park and denials our access to the sailing spot. Maybe someone has to get sick again before the city will take action to remove the water.

Anyone who wish to contact District 10 supervisor Walton, here is the link:

Did the state abandon Candlestick Point State Park to the city? There even used to be rangers.

At one point when the ballpark was still there I talked to the guy who ran facilities. They had a sump pump there and that explained why you would suddenly see water pouring out of a pipe at the windsurfing launch on a sunny day.

The state still owns and manages (so to speak) the Park. There is one lonely ranger who shows up occasionally, and a maintenance truck that "cleans" the porta potties that have taken the place of the broken permanent restrooms.

The 1/3 of a mile long flooding of Hunter Point Highway is a separate issue. The city must clean and open it, eventually, but the responsibility for the mess probably falls on the shoulders of the developer who owns the Candlestick site. It is obvious that whatever drainage system was there before, when the Stadium was operating, and later on before it was demolished, is not working any longer Shocked

A bloody mess that would never be allowed to happen in any other part of the city.
