You are going quite fast for the gear, but the 39 knots looks like an artifact. The point-to-point variation is quite extreme, which is pretty typical for GoPro numbers. Numbers go from 35 to 39 knots and back in a fraction of a second.

Looks like you might be reaching 2-second averages near 35 mph (30.5 knots). That's still quite fast for the gear you are using.

If you'd want to have a good idea of your real speed, you'd need to put the data in analysis software like GPS Action Replay, and look at your 10-second averages. But getting the speed data out of the GoPro into a format that analysis software can use can be quite difficult.

31cm on a 4.2, woah, must go upwind well!
Never had issues with board control or stiff jibes?

Might be camera placement high on mast, mast flex/movement supplementing the velocity instantaneously. Catapults will show high speeds too.

Aye, I’ve hit 40 knots flying through the air with a 170L Go!

Not to be Mr. Negative…but speed on the water would not be fluctuating back and forth like that. You can certainly lose speed very quickly …but regaining the speed back is slow …a lot slower. It can take quite sometime to go from say 30-35….and only a fraction of a second to from 35-30. Sorry but I highly doubt the speed reading . Like others mentioned mast movement or just glitches .

Thanks for the input, everybody.

I ran the same camera data through the GoPro phone app, instead of the GroPro Quik desktop version. And it's as skeptical as you guys are. Besides its algorithm filtering it gives a 1 sec average. It's saying I hit a sustained 35 point something mph. Not 39 mph MAX. The speedometer moves really smooth.

Thx,
