Hello everyone,
I’m planning to go to Maui next February. I was wondering if somebody can advise places and rentals near Wailea and Kihei for an intermediate windsurfer.

Thanks!

Can of worms?
Feb is wave season, not much wind, nor often. Some weeks can get 3 days a week, some zero when clouded in.
S shore winds are mostly side to side offshore.
All rentals have been fron the Kanaha area with mostly smaller gear.
Proficient with a 100 liter board almost a minimum requirement.

Last February I got 10 wing foiling days out 2 weeks on Maui. Foiling on Kanaha, Kahului harbor and Maalaea bay.
There is no windsurfing rental on South shore. All rentals is in Kahului and Haiku (North shore). No matter where are you stay, you will need to drive to North shore for rental equipment and sailing - most likely on Kanaha. I stayed in Kihei (by the Cove) for many years and never had problems to drive to NS, it's just 16 miles - 30 minutes drive.

Hey motogon,
Did you rent your wingfoil gear or did you bring your own stuff? If you rented, what's a good shop to rent from and how much?

Bert, I used my own gear, but most shops already offering wingfoil gear for rent.

I have gone to Maui often in winter, always staying in Kihei. Kihei can be better than Kanaha in winter months. Especially when storm winds blow from the south, Kihei is the place to be! Mai Poina Beach Park on Kihei Rd in north Kihei is where most sailing is done. There can even be small surfable waves. Maui Sunset is the other place but the reefs are shallow there.
If the ENE trades are blowing, Kanaha is the place to go. Between Kihei and Kanaha I usually average about 7-8 days sailing in 2 weeks on Maui with regular rental sails.
Many places to rent in Kahului along Hana Hwy and Kanaha Kai on the road to Kanaha. Definitely need a rental car or van.
