Old Port Tampa Overview

Great wind exposure(N-NW-W-SW-S-SW) with great variety of water conditions(flat to big bump and jump). Super Location in Tampa Bay for Sea Breezes/W oriented winds! Picnic Island Park is the place to launch from... Tampa's biggest peninsula park juts out into the heart of Tampa Bay. Be careful-lots of boat traffic off west shore yields to FUN wake from tugboats, supplyships, frieghtships,and private yachts going to/from old port of Tampa in the shipping channel. Just West of MacDill Airforce Base-great show of Airforce and Navy supply planes and fighter jets(F-15, F-16, F-18. A-10 etc) screaming by on landings and takeoffs!

Season:	Aug-May West(SW-NW good too!) winds & Best Seabreezes in Tampa Bay!-South wind good too but sideoff

Water:	flatwater @ s tip of PicnicIsland- rough and bump Jump w/ large boat traffic to port along westbeach

Ability Level:	Intermediate+along West Beach-Beginer@ South tip of Picnic Island(safe and shallow)

Familiness:	w/ playgroud and pavillions@PicnicIsland recently renovated clean w/lifeguards on weekends

Parking:	Plenty of Free Parking @ Picnic Island Park

Launch:	Picnic Island Park- Best launch 1rst right after gate entrance-southof small pier/boat ramp/dog park

Maps & Directions

Take Westshore Blvd to its end where you will see signs for Picnic Island Park. Plenty of free parking. Very clean nice park.
