I've sheared off a G10 fin in exactly the same way, so probably no safer.
Maybe carbon?

I'm opposite.
Windfoil, especially long fuze and low aspect foil, is smooth and effortless, providing underpowered so pumping is needed.
Wings take energy and agility, plus balance....commoditie ...
