Sailwave, was that left going? I was wondering on sailable days if the surfers all head left leaving the right open for sailing?

Sailwave reply:

In general the surfers do go upwind toward the jetty, where it is all rights, but only on > 20 days. Straight off the beach there are lefts and rights. Most sailable days are 10 knots in the waves and 20 knots outside. Due to the jetty the chop is relatively tame even in moderate winds and the surfers still play where the windsurfing wants to happen. No altercations yet and lets keep it that way. Stay clear of surfers and plan to miss some waves and don't even get close to them. On the way back out thru the waves, stay vocal so they know your cruising by. I learned this on the hardway as I think I almost gave a guy a heart attach as my board hit the water after a small jump upwind of a senior surfer. With the wind blowing they can't hear you coming.

It was pretty windy on the Peninsula yesterday... wind was a bit up and down, but I had a good time at Coyote on 3.7 and 81l. Could've also had an equally good or better time on 4.2... not quite sure.

Nice to see the bay looking every bit as pretty as the river.

Haha, yes. Homeboy went for a lap around Angel Island. Sat on his board and rocked out to his ipod until he drifted out of the lee of the Island. Cruised into view on the horizon as we were finishing a round of warm PBR on the rocks.

Bad up and down winds at Berkely Sun thru Tuesday, with the same Wed, it looks like. One moment it's 14, then it's 30, then immediately back to 17, then up and down.
Today Wed looks cloudy W and clearing, but no stronger than 15 averages at 12:30.
Maybe it comes up, for a moment, maybe not. Good luck. Van is warm.

Sailed San Leandro Marina 4/27/10 on 4.5, 8'6", from 2pm to 4pm. Southerly wind direction meant sailing from parking lot towards Oakland Airport and back. But ramps could be had on both port and starboard tacks. Some gusts and holes, but a pretty good day.
