|
|
Hello,
I would very much like to hear of any free or low cost camping near Katherine's Landing on Lake Mohave. I am going there November & am told the best wind will be at Cabin Site.
Six Mile Cove up north on the Nevada side has been mentioned for South winds & has free camping, but I'm told the overall best wind in November favors North winds & Cabin Site. ( near Bullhead, AZ )
I pull a small WS trailer & sleep in my SUV.
I typically do dispersed camping where I can find a legal place to park
and can live w/o water, bathroom, etc.
Any info is most welcome.
rgds & tnx, Mike |

I'd also want to consider the effects of this record El Nino on the weather and/or the lake. Good? Bad? Both? Insignificant? |

There is a campground right at Cabin Site, (Katherine's Landing) ran by the Park Service. I think it's about $18 a night. There's "Gypsy Camping" too, a place we call Gunnar's Gulch, but it would be hard to explain how to get there. A lot of people camp in the Casino parking lots. This works well for big RVs but not so good for the average car camper. There are many dirt roads you can check out, outside the National Recreation Area, but some of them are pretty rough. During the week some of the Casino's have awesome deals, like $25 a night which is nice when the days are short and the nights are long. I like the Colorado Belle and Edgewater Casinos. Good luck! November can be awesome. |

Some friends of mine, Yuri and Barbara, usually spend Nov. at Lake Mojave for windsurfing.
They spend June/July at Sherman Island.
Checking the site, it seems water levels are adaquate. |

camping spots that are cheap near the southern end of the lake are slim....Some of the regulars who sail Mojave camp at 6 mile cove and when a northerly is predicted they commute down to K-landing. There IS a county park below the dam that is often not full.
I'd guess....with el nino there will be fewer northerly fronts going through the Mojave area this season...Just a guess....Sailing at Mojave can be good. |
