Got a 150 Shark, 140 Exocet WARP, and 2 Formulas that work. My 109 SuperSport should be plenty big also with a 70cm mast length. But when wind died in late Oct., it died to 2-7 mph from over 17 in the gusts in Oct. |
I just read the Naish website -
Are you saying you got the Naish Thrust WS Foil complete?
But there weren't any Naish boards available?
Yeah I agree you can use a foil like that with any of your boards. Just remove the straps... and if you use the FW, don't stand on the rail... you'll probably be between the centerline and the rail.
Question - It looks like the Naish Thrust Foil only comes with a 4-bolt plate at the top of the mast-strut. So if that's true will you be modifying one of your boards to work with that plate? _________________ Greg

The Naish Thrust WS 1 has an adapter for both tuttle & deep tuttle boxes as an accessory.

Right now you can get the Hover Titan 120 which is the Naish dual foil/windsurfing board, or you can wait for the dedicated foil board, the Hover 122.

Cool, thanks, great that it'll work with Tuttle boxes.
The alum foils work great and are a super value... but just too bad they are so much heavier, for carrying around. Still though, I wanted one last spring, even weighing twice as much... but none were available.
So I paid a lot more, and got the only LP at the shop. But I love the light weight... and I know I'll never outgrow it's capability. _________________ Greg

As breadtoshred recognized, if the foil mounted at the back fails to lift the hull clear it will only push the nose down, resulting in lower speed and increased rig loading in most every case. Those pictures show nothing but drag inducing appendages. _________________ Support Your Sport. Join US Windsurfing!

Those were a bad idea 28 years ago and they still are.

I redrilled a WINDANCE power plate to fit the Naish 4 hole pattern and have deep tuttle and power box adapters. Also the Naish 4 hole. |

I call this a mini foil. It’s not on the bottom of the the fin, as I felt it likely to ground, and get damaged. Epoxy, s glass, using 2sections of carbon batten , through the fin, into the end of the wing .
Angle of attack is 1degree to the extend possible.
Back to back with traditional, fin setup twice. This performed better at 15 mph and less, traditional fin better with higher.
No issue with any characteristics using the mini foil, turns ,everything was fairly normal, until higher wind, then it felt draggy. The rear did not raise, it did feel freeer from the water surface, the nose did not sink.
Might be that the area needs to be spot on, along with the other installation options.
I need to clean up the joint area, I will try again this spring. I don’t think this is something I will dwell on. _________________ K4 fins

Precisely what wind conditions are you thinking to use it in Joe? |

was gonna get the PB/powerbox version since frpgear suggested narrower boards
so - light wind with Mistral Equipe and Fanatic Shark 145 (8.x sail)
light wind for me is 10-12 knots (with the Shark perhaps 13-14)
hoping to make it all just a bit "lighter" on the water/semi-planing or ??
after 12+ knots there are other options |
