|
|
Any advice on using a 1 bolt universal with a SUP. I have a Quatro Ride that has an attachment for a 1 bolt universal (i.e., it doesn't have a proper mast track). Just wondering if there are any best practices to avoid the bolt seizing up in the attachment, or ways to avoid stripping the threads on the attachment.
Thanks for any tips.

Keep it Clean or it will seize up.
Mine seized and it started to spin had to cut the threaded
section.
Mast Track is a much better option.
I ended up getting a mast track installed
as a result and I know of this happening to at least one
other guy.
I would try to clean it with a brush and even lube it.

Don't crash. Don't do light wind freestyle. Don't use the SUP when the wind picks up.
Or put in a mast track right away. I've seen quite a few SUPs where the single point adjustment came out. Although one manufacturer had who seemed to have a couple of single attachment points actually had used a mast track and then hid it because otherwise the SUP would never sell to non-windsurfers.

Use Teff-Gel on the threads.

Mechanical joint preferably euro-pin and keep it lubed/free of sand. That will minimize bending on the insert and the chances of unscrewing it.

I've been using a single bolt Chinook for years, with no problem. I remove it after every session and keep the hole clean.

OTOH, I've NOT used a single bolt base since one ripped completely out of a new HiTech Ian Boyd (i.e., "Gorge Tough") board's mast track in a simple crash in 1992. Fluke? Dunno, don't care, because I've never had a problem with a twin bolt base.

You can't mount a twin bolt base in a SUP with a single screw mount.
