Hi All,
Is anyone else having issues with adjusting the new Chinook extension collars?
It seems awkward to reset and can easily break. I've always liked Chinook products because of their no bull/easy to use/ long lasting products, so this one
seems un-Chinook-like.
Thanks for listening.

Got one last spring. Seems fine to me.
Still have and use several old pivot collars, seems fine to me.
I even have pin and slide collars...seems fine. |

You mean the plastic C-clip? I've used it for three seasons, no problem, and I prefer it to the previous types for utility. I've thought about the breakage/fatigue/loss issue, but has not happened yet. Seems like an easy and cheap part to replace also. Maybe good to have a spare. I too have and use the two previous generations of collars, they are fine too. |

In fact, I think I've only had one mast base fail on me, where a crack appeared in the tube between the bottom edge and one of the two holes for attaching the star base. I remember replacing a pully frame on another, via the two machine screws. Other than that I have 25-year old bases that I still use. |

Thanks for the info All.
I've replaced my cracked collar with a new one and it works much better.
It seems the first one was a different, shiny plastic which seems stiffer and more brittle than the first one. The new one has a matte finish and is way more
flexible. Works well.
Cheers,

I struggled with this as well. I was prying the adjustment apart and it felt like it could break. I tripped across this video and it shows how you can adjust the collar pretty easily. You may already being doing this but thought I would share - https://youtu.be/Q8fCevrSgt8 |

I've had both the plastic collar and the end cap break. The shop (Boardsports California, San Mateo)where I bought the mast base replaced the collar free of charge with one they had on a rental base.
But when I broke the end cap, they said, try some tape. I instead contacted Chinook directly and they sent me a replacement free of charge with no questions asked.
I sail 180 days a year, so I often break things in a season that would last most people a lifetime. YMMV
The plastic parts do break, as mine both broke within a few months of buying the mast base. |

I have switched all of mine back to the collar and pin system.
Delta Windsurf, once open, will have both for repair or replacement for sale.
It's my understanding Chinook will soon have something different.
Just guessing it may be more like the collar and pin. |

Side note, the new plastic collar has two (read four total) pins. It causes the measurements to be off on the extension. Or at least different than with the collar and pin system. |
