H-

I guess this is a topic for WeatherFlow. There is a anemometer in the Marina -- very near the unused large ship dock on the north end of the marina basin. Is that Hood River Event Site DB1? Its not, obviously, at the Event site ... but its location on the wind map makes it look like it might be the right meter.

Also, what location is HR Event Site? Is that installed on the the Northwave building?

Thanks!!

Hi Nat,

Many years ago our sensor was on the NW corner of the Northwave building. That was a crummy location.

Since we started partnering with the DoD and the Coast Guard on Homeland Security projects about 12 years ago we are able to put weather stations on federal Aid to Navigation nationwide.

These NavAid sensors are also useful for HazMat, ship/barge traffic, wind turbine planning etc. They are also incidentally useful for wingers, kiters and windsurfers.

Our Event Site sensor has an almost perfect location directly east of the Event Site launch on the Sand Bar with no wind disturbing trees etc. nearby. You can see our sensor in the satellite image below.

I have long watched the Marina sensor as a possible back up location if the now useless landbound Nav. Aid is removed by the Coast Guard. Unfortunately, there is way too much turbulence at that location for a decent sensor reading.

Hope this helps!
