Im moving from Cambridge, MA to Northkingston RI pretty soon. I usually hit Kalmus or West Dennis at the Cape but was wondering where the best RI places where to windsurf.
Any thoughts? |

Fogland in Tiverton is a great spot. Closer to Kingston you have Newport, 2nd and 3rd Beaches, also Ninegit Pond in Charlestown. Theyre all good spots. I drive down from Nashua, NH whenever the wind looks good in RI. |

I went to college in Providence and the place I used to sail the most was called Fogland? Decent sailing mostly 6.0m-7.5m. There was a nice group of people that sailed there. Good luck. |

Fogland is good in a southwest, some chop hopping on opposing tide. It also works in a northeast or norhtwest launching on the shallow side of the peninsula. Statistacly Fogland is almost as good as Kalmus for wind.
First, Second, Third Beaches in Newport. Ask at Island Sports.
Scarborough Beach for waves in a northeast- sideshore wind.
Refuge Harbor in Pt. Judith inside the breakwater for less chop. You can sail through the gaps into the open ocean for more chop.
Deep Hole, (Matunick Beach), for waves in southwest. Very rocky surfer beach but gets a small windsurfing crowd too in spring and fall.
Ningret for flat water- sail over a sandbar. Popular site.
Most of these sites dont get a very good summer thermal wind. They are better with frontal driven wind. Fogland is probably the best for summer winds. |

URI Bay Campus. Fort Getty, Jamestown. On northerly winds, you can sail just north of the Jamestown Bridge. Actually, you have quite a few places to go, with only a short drive.

Another location. Quonset Point. Good on Swerlies especially if the upper bay is blowing. Lower Bay can be dead but can be honking further north.
Other locations to consider: Conimicut Point.
Kind of jealous, I live in CT and have to drive an hour to get to Narragansett Bay.
Pt. Judith is mainly frontal driven winds. If the winds build in the bay due to a thermal, the winds at Pt. Judith tend to decrease. Access here is difficult during the summer.
In regards to Fogland. You can spend the same amount of time driving to Neds Pt. I have to say the winds are better there.
