I am looking for a place to go for a long weekend during the winter. Ideally, direct flight, good wind, and warm.... I dont like Aruba with the Shoals, the long slog back, and the wind all cut up by the new hotels. Bonaire is great but I am looking for a shorter trip.

Consider barbados, but only if you are up to wavesailing (sliver sands/silver rock area) as the flat-water sailing in the Oistins area is inconsistant. Doesnt appear that there are any direct flights anymore (bwee discontinued IAD->BGI service) so this may limit this option to more than a long wknd. |

Puerto Rico: San Juan for wave / slalom sailing or Shacks for best down the line wavesailing...
St. Martin for bay/wave sailing and probably best wind...
If the temps are warm, hatteras is still on, my buddy is down in ocracoke right now, blowing 4.5, water in 50s but presently 39 degrees... it was sailable past 2 weekends... |
