Returned from vacation at Moonbeach, Egypt. Located ~25 miles south of Ras Sudr on the west side of the Sinai, east side of the Gulf of Suez. Sailed 18 of the 21 days. 15 to 40 knot days. Windfinder data is way off. Basically multiple the forecast numbers by a factor of 2. Days sailed were equally divided between 6.5M, 5.2-5.8M and 4.2-4.7M days using a 78L RRD FreestyleWave or 100/110L RRD FreeMove. Sailing conditions are similar to El Yaque, Isla de Margarita. RRD,Starboard,Tushingham(>6.0M), Ezzy(3.7-5.8M) and few North (4.2 & 4.7M) sails all on RDMs.
The Centre is the center of activity day & night. Resort is a bit isolated. Service from the windsurf center staff is excellent. Very friendly & helpful. Frontline rooms are 30sec-1minute walk to the center. Nice, but dated rooms. The only restaurant is ~2min walk from the center. Clean & safe village. Left my front door (the only screened door) open 24/7. Wet windsurf gear left hanging on the racks at the Centre. The only real negative is the mediocre food. Bit like eating out at a Denny's or Country Buffet every morning & night. Luckily Sunday nights were trips into RasSudr with some of the staff for some local Egyptian cooking. Beer is expensive. The Centre Bar is under contract to purchase beer from the Hotel. 6le=$1.00. Beer was 25le at the Centre and 27le at the hotel restaurant. Everything else was inexpensive. Subtract the bar tab I ended up spending ~$140 over 21 days. That covered 3 meals from RasSudr, t-shirt, water, taxi into RasSudr, lunches.
Meeting some really nice people and sailing good winds on quality gear made for a very positive 1st visit. SUP & windsurfing with Dolphins in the clearest, bluest water I've sailed in was a very special experience. Over the past 15 spring seasons I've vacationed either at Cabarete, Maui & Margarita. Moonbeach may be significantly smaller in size, but the windsurfing experience on this 1st visit was equal to the better trips at the larger venues. Definitely worth a return trip.
