Shorter masts are harder in every way.

I'm still riding a 2' mast. I've been resisting adding the weight and the draft. I'm finally making jibes and can point upwind plenty. Hopefully it just extended my learning curve.

So we should only do what is EASY?
I have had my 70, 90, and 65 cm masts for about a year now.
Since that time, having all 3, I used my 70 maybe 10 days, my 90 7 days, and my 65 about 40 days.
Yes, prior to buying a second mast, I used the 70 about 100 days over 2 seasons.
Shorter masts give direct feedback when turning sharply.
Long masts are great for long straight runs.
Long masts catch many more objects in the water.
I feel bad about hitting fish or mammals with my foil.
I also hate hitting submerged logs, stumps, plastic bags, and concrete pillars.....or bottom at lower tides.

Thanks

Depends what you weigh and how windy is your spot, and how big you want to rig.
For instance, me 160 lbs, superb pumper.
Typical day, 15-23 mph wind, 600 foil and 3.7. 122 liter board. Berkeley needs a 200 yard slog in 2-5 mph breeze, I hate that on a 3.7. Much easier to slog out on 5.0 and 90 liter board just windsurfing.
