|
|
Tried to windsurf at West Dennis yesterday. In the spirit of " give them an inch, they will take a mile. The pipping plover authorities have completely taken over.
They started out what, 5 to 10 years ago. Blocked off part of the beach for a week or two in August. Then slowly but surely each year blocked off more of the beach and increased the time. So now there is no parking where we can launch. And beach is blocked for most of the summer. If your lucky, can find a parking spot to lug your gear a 100 yards or more. I'm all for nature, love animals, love birds, but in my opinion, this has gone too far ! |

Piping Plover are no longer an Endangered Species on the Atlantic coast, they are now a threatened species.
The town needs to push back on your fish and wildlife service. |

The impression is that the town is perfectly fine with restricting windsurfing, to the point where it's almost impossible. |

DC | No , you can still kite down by the jetty. A very long walk, and if it's a nice beach day, parking would be an issue |

it is said there are fewer and fewer nesting pairs each season. perhaps they will soon be extinct, as they should be with a ground nesting strategy. |

Then I suggest you contact the Beach Management Advisory Committee, couldn't hurt
https://www.town.dennis.ma.us/beach-management-advisory-committee
Windsurfing and board rigging at West Dennis Beach are restricted to the designated area for said purpose and access to the beach is limited to specified pathways.
sounds like you would want to adjust the designated area and/or specified pathways |

Furthermore, windsurfers are a critically endangered subspecies.
